Odes to '08 and '09

Conversely, 2008 is going to be the year of learning to let go, one of the hardest things in the world. I have problems letting go— too bad I’m going to have to do so much of it. I need to let go of the school I love, I’m going to college. Let go of living at home, with your parents who do more than they probably should for you. Let go of a comfortable pseudo-life for one in the real world. Let go of the ones we love, for our own good or theirs, even if it’s just so they can fall on their ass and realize what life really is. Let go of the Bad Stuff. Welcome the new Good… and definitely appreciate the old Good more than I have. I’m gonna’ miss you guys. I really, really am. This year’s going to be exciting, but it isn’t going to be an easy one. Let’s all try to keep our heads on straight, shall we?

That was my “Ode to ‘08” from the blog post I wrote last year. You know, it really was funny looking back on my perception of ‘07, and my prediction of what ‘08 would be like.

As it turns out, my prediction for ‘08 was a little bit more pessimistic than it needed to be. In fact, as I was thinking earlier today, if I had to pick, 2008 is what I would choose as the best year of my life thus far. I formed great friendships, both at the beginning of the year with the members of my class, and nearer the end with new people at Brown. Old social drama finally settled down, and life is once again calm. I graduated from high school among people I love, and enrolled in a college that I never would have dreamed I’d be accepted to. I’ve had the opportunity to work on new projects with a team of amazing people, and even found time to work on a few things on the side. School work could have gone a bit better than it did, but… all-in-all, what does it matter in the course of a lifetime? 2008 was my year, our year, and 2008 was excellent. I’ll be sad to see it go.

Now what will become of 2009. I fear that 2008 went far too well for 2009 to possibly be good. {tongue} Plus, we’ve got that other batch of students graduating this year — you know, the “8th graders?” God, what a scary thought that is.

Nevertheless, in spite of the group of people our high school is unleashing upon the world ({wink}), I’m optimistic for 2009. 2008 was not great just because of what happened during the year, but also because of the possibilities it set up for the year ahead. Just today Johnny, co-founder of Slightly Pretentious, received our complimentary engraved binders reading “Slightly Pretentious Software, LLC.” Yup, that’s right, we’re incorporated! School I’m sure will go much better now that I’ve adjusted, and I think I’ve finally fixed those few friendships that needed fixing.

As for my friends, I can only hope your 2008 was also phenomenal, and that your outlook for the year to come is as good as mine. I love you all, and once again it is time for me to say…

Happy New Year, friends. {smile}

    Well, 2008 was a great year here for me, too. It was the year everything at Mount came together. Too bad we had to do the whole graduation thing. But, it was time to move on to college, which has presented its own set of challenges.

    Yes, 2008 had a few low points for me, but overall I had to say it was kick-ass. I got to spend lots of time with people that I hope can stay in my life for a long time, and had some great new experiences - such as sleeping in a bed in Madrid with multiple STDs on the sheets.

    So, 2008 was good. Can 2009 match it? I doubt it in a way. Nothing can beat still being in high school and having a car with barely any bills to pay and being able to hang out with people all the time, but it's time to enter that "real world" we've all be preparing for, and hopefully I can have a damn good time there, too.

    Same to you my friend, it's been nice to finally settle the partnership I was searching for a long time. But be careful, 'cause now that I get you, I will be hard to get rid of {tongue} {wink}
    Happy and generous New Year 2009 mister Patenaude.

    Same to you. I'm glad to have been in touch with you in 2008, and I can't thank you or Laurent enough for what you have done with Bowtie. I look forward to staying in touch, and seeing what wonderful new things 2009 holds {smile}

    Hi, I found your application "Colors" via a Twitter, and I got a surprise about the simple but convenience UI. I threw a DigitalColor Meter application into a wastebasket, I start to use this anytime when I wanna know a color.

    BTW, I have a request about this great application. I want to select an area (not only a point) when choosing. Because, sometimes I have to check the average color of the specified area.

    I would very appreciate it if you could consider my request.

    Anyway, this is a great application. Many thanks.
