Projects I'd Like to Work On

So I’ve been kicking around a few ideas for apps that I’ve always kind of wanted. Thought I’d take this opportunity to share my thoughts, see if anyone would be interested in any of them. {smile}

  • Bowtie: this one sort of doesn’t count, since I’m already working on it, though I would like to devote more time to it. {wink}
  • Imagine: an actually usable Cocoa disk image creation app. This would be a replacement for FileStorm by MindVision, which is pitifully outdated and expensive.
  • MobileYou: the state of webmail depresses me. I’d love a sexy webmail client, that plays nicely with iPhone. Maybe throw in iCal support, but mail would be enough for me.
  • WebGUI: needs a better name, but I just don’t think any of the GUI frameworks for the web are quite sexy enough. I’d like to put something together that resembles the gorgeous set of MobileMe controls Apple created (for use with or without SproutCore).
  • TuneConnect 3: I’ve got some pretty big plans for this one… just hope I can find the time to get it off the ground.
  • Notes: this one’s a little iPhone/desktop combo— a simple note box that syncs with iPhones, other Macs, and enables easy sharing of snippets of text. Think an online pastie, only much more convenient.
  • R42: kicked this one around a bit but never got far. It isn’t so much an app as a framework to make web integration easier. I would like to be able to write a blog updating app in less than 20 minutes— a framework like this would make it easier.

Just a few ideas, let me know if any of them appeal to you. If you like it, maybe I’ll develop it. If you like it a lot, and you’re a developer, talk to me, and maybe I’ll give you permission to use my idea. {wink}

    Might be a little cheeky on my part, but any updates on Architect? The homepage leaves everyone wondering WHEN? {smile} The preview looks awesome btw. We must be millions of anxious would-be customizers waiting {big smile}

    For the nice Webmail GUI, there is the free combination of RoundCube and a MobileMe theme found below. But it's not really open source and a bit of an arse to set up. Something else sexy like this wouldn't go amiss though {smile}

    Can you add a mailing list signup or something to the Bowtie teaser? I want to be notified when the app comes out but I don't want to have to check manually. Any thoughts?

    bowtie almost perfect, just yank the icon from the dock and toss it in the menubar.

    thanks

    I agree with jake. It's the perfect controller app, the only feature missing is to put the icon in the menu bar instead of the dock.
